INFP

The Idealist

Measures everything against what it could have been.

Empath about 4.4% of people
I Introverted

energised by depth, quiet and your own head

N Intuitive

trusts patterns, implications and what could be

F Feeling

decides by values and effect on people

P Perceiving

wants options open and plans loose

You have a clear internal sense of how things ought to be and you feel the gap keenly. You are far more resilient than you look -- you will hold a position for years if it matters to you -- but you spend a lot of energy on the distance between the ideal and the actual. Your imagination is your best tool and your worst habit.

Strengths

  • Genuinely principled, not just opinionated
  • Sees potential in people and draws it out
  • Creative and original without trying to be
  • Compassionate toward people others have written off

Blind spots

  • Idealises early, then feels betrayed by ordinary reality
  • Procrastinates on anything that feels inauthentic
  • Takes conflict personally and for a long time
  • Avoids the practical until it becomes urgent

Where to grow

  • Let a person be flawed without downgrading them
  • Do the boring necessary thing before it is a crisis
  • Say the criticism out loud instead of adding it to a private list

In relationships

You want to be truly known, not just liked, and you will wait a long time for it. The risk is building a version of your partner in your head and then being disappointed by the real one. Speak the disappointment early -- it is usually much smaller than it becomes in silence.

How INFP actually thinks

The four letters are a label; this is the mechanism. The order matters — the first function is what you lead with and trust, the last is where you are least comfortable and most easily knocked off balance.

Dominant Fi — Introverted Feeling
Weighs things against a personal sense of what matters.
Auxiliary Ne — Extraverted Intuition
Diverges into possibilities; sees what else a thing could become.
Tertiary Si — Introverted Sensing
Compares the present against a detailed store of past experience.
Inferior Te — Extraverted Thinking
Organises the outside world toward a measurable result.
